UTSA picks up 3-1 victory at Texas State

Freshman Joy Jarrell netted her first collegiate goal in the 3-1 win at Texas State.

SAN MARCOS ? The UTSA soccer team handed I-35 rival TexasStatea 3-1 loss in Southland Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.



The Roadrunners (5-7-2, 3-1-1 SLC) took the early lead inthe first half when freshman Alli Dillon beat TexasState’sgoalkeeper on a breakaway for the 1-0 advantage. Freshman Joy Jarrell then netted her first collegiate goalto give UTSA a 2-0 edge with nine minutes remaining in the frame.

In second half action, sophomore Veronica Najera’s team-leading seventh goal ofthe year put the Roadrunners up 3-0 at the 72-minute mark. An own goal by UTSA pulled Texas State within two at 3-1, but that would be all the scoring on the day.



Najera posted a match-high five shots, while Dillon totaledthree, as the Roadrunners held an 18-8advantage over the Bobcats. Freshman Allison McCabe collected two saves on the day.


Reagan McNutt led TexasState (3-10-1, 2-2-1 SLC)with three shots and Amanda Byrd tallied a match-best six saves.

UTSA returns to action when it hits the road for an SLC match at Central Arkansas on Friday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
