SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s tennis team travels to Austin this weekend for the ITA South Central Regional Championship held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Junior Robin Fernandes and freshman Daniel Moreiras collected the UTSA Invitational Blue Draw consolation doubles title at the UTSA Invitational on Oct. 6.
In their semifinal match, the duo dealt Weigand and Kane-West from Texas an 8-6 defeat to advance to the finals. The pair then made quick work of TCU’s Bulls and Panayides, 8-0, en route to the title.
Also in doubles action were senior Adam Becker and sophomore Rodrigo Morgado, who lost their semifinal match, 8-6, to Campos and Meza from Monterrey.
In singles action, Becker posted a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) against Powers from St. Edward’s to advance to the finals of the Orange Draw, but he then fell to Novikov of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by scores of 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
Meanwhile, Fernandes lost his semifinal match in the Blue Draw singles to Texas Tech’s Babinciue in straight sets, while Morgado fell in his match against Varela from Texas.
