SEGUIN ? Sophomore Dana Mecke continued her impressive fall campaign with a runner-up finish to lead the UTSA women’s cross country team to third place on Saturday at the TLU Bulldog Invitational.
Mecke, who also played in volleyball matches Thursday and Saturday, covered the 6,000-meter Texas Lutheran Campus Course in a time of 23:03.4 for second place behind Rachael Kingsford of Lamar (22:55.0). It marked her fourth top-six finish and the fifth time this season the Smithson Valley High product finished as the top Roadrunner.
Fellow sophomore Faith Barlow clocked 24:26.3 for 13th overall, while sophomore Katy Spence was 21st in 25:38.8. Freshmen Jayde James and Liana Garcia rounded out the top five in 24th (25:41.0) and 26th (26:12.9), respectively.
UTSA scored 79 points to tie Monterrey Tech for third place in the 12-team field behind Lamar (39) and Texas State (50).
The Roadrunners are off this weekend in preparation for the Southland Conference Championships held Saturday, Oct. 27, in Corpus Christi.
