Texas-Arlington defeats UTSA in three games on Saturday

Junior Audrey Hiser had a career-high 29 digs on Saturday.

SAN ANTONIO ? Texas-Arlington won for the eighth time in its last nine matches when it handed UTSA a three-game defeat on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center (30-26, 30-22, 30-26).

The Mavericks (13-7, 6-1 SLC) went on an 8-1 run after trailing 25-22 late in game one and then cruised to an eight-point triumph one frame later to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the locker room. The Roadrunners came out with an inspired effort in game three and led 26-22, but UTA closed out the match by scoring the final eight points.

The Roadrunners were paced by junior middle hitter Victoria Prior’s 13 kills and freshman middle hitter Valorie Rogers’ dozen winners. Defensively, junior libero Audrey Hiser led three Roadrunners in double figures with a career-high 29 digs, her sixth 20-plus performance of the season.

Outside hitter Torie Dacus led Texas-Arlington with 13 kills, while setter Emily Nedderman had a double-double of 32 assists and 13 digs. Outside hitter Bianca Sauls collected a team-best 22 digs for the Mavericks.

UTSA returns to action next Friday when it heads to the Bayou State for a 7 p.m. match at Northwestern State.
