FRISCO ? Sophomore Dana Mecke was named Southland Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Incarnate Word Invitational last Saturday, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mecke finished as the top Roadrunner for the third time this season, placing fourth at the Incarnate Word Invitational on Saturday at San Antonio State School. The Smithson Valley High School product ? who also played in volleyball matches on Friday and Saturday night ? covered the 5k loop in 18:04.4 to lead UTSA to a third-place finish. Mecke now has three top-six finishes in three races this fall, highlighted by her first collegiate victory at the Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic on Sept. 21.
This is the first weekly award for a Roadrunner since Hope Jimenez picked up the honor on Sept. 26, 2006.
