SAN ANTONIO ? The Roadrunners men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when it hosts the two-day UTSA Invitational, which begins on Friday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The field is set with 10 teams making the trip to San Antonio. Competing in this weekend’s invitational are Louisiana-Lafayette, Monterrey Tecnol?gico, St. Edward’s, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, Tyler Junior College, UTPA and UTSA.
A pair of Roadrunners had good showing at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American last weekend. Senior Adam Becker advanced to the third round of the prequalifying singles draw. The Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, native collected a 6-4, 6-3, win over Clemson’s Robert Pietrucha. He then faced Balazs Novak from Ohio State in the third round. Becker began the match winning the first set, 6-4, but Novak won the next two sets (6-4, 6-4) to move on.
Meanwhile, junior Robin Fernandes collected straight-set win against Dara McLoughin of Indiana. In his third-round match, he handed Kayron Karimi of Texas A&M a 6-1, 6-2 loss. Fernandes then fell in the fourth round to Dawid Kuczer of SMU in straight sets.
