WACO ? Juniors Eva Silvester and Nathalie Wallin won the doubles C draw consolation title at the HEB Baylor Invitational over the weekend.
The duo defeated Patricia Mansur and Lidiye Tsurkane, 8-2, in the consolation semifinals, and then collected the doubles title via default.
In singles action, UTSA had strong showings by Wallin and junior Karen Scida. Wallin lost in the singles B draw consolation finals against Joanne Karaitiana in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), while Scida fell in the singles A draw consolation semifinals versus Madura Rananathan by scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Carolina Dedering collected a pair of victories in the singles C draw versus Mia Gordon in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 7-6) and against Lauren White (5-7, 6-4, 6-2). Dedering fell to Sarah Drummond in the quarterfinals in straight sets.
Meanwhile, sophomore Holly Phillips picked up a win in the singles C draw against Marian Ruiz de Gauna, before falling to Saina Aranda in the quarterfinals. Junior Monika Drabkova collected a straight-set win over Chissie Cooper in the B draw.
