HUNTSVILLE ? True freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland had her fourth double-double in the last five matches and UTSA tied its season high with 12 total blocks, but it was not enough, as Sam Houston State picked up a hard-fought five-game victory against UTSA on Saturday evening at Johnson Coliseum (30-26, 25-30, 30-26, 23-30, 15-11).

The Roadrunners, playing the final contest of a nine-match road trip, dropped their fifth match in a row to fall to 7-13 overall and 0-4 in SLC play, while the Bearkats improved to 9-7 (3-1 SLC).

Rowland paced the Roadrunners with 14 kills and a match-best 18 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Freshman middle hitter Valrie Rogers added a dozen winners and three block assists, while junior middle hitter Victoria Prior recorded 11 kills and a season-best seven total blocks (3 solos/4 assists). Senior outside hitter Cristina Almeida served up four aces and freshman setter Jordan White set career highs for assists (37), digs (10) and total blocks (three).

Outside hitter Cynthia Yarotsky led Sam Houston State with a match-high 17 kills and 11 digs and middle blocker Katie Phillips racked up seven block assists.

UTSA is back in action on Friday night when it welcomes Prairie View A&M (10-9) to the Convocation Center. The match will be the Roadrunners' first home contest since Sept. 8 and it also will be the final non-conference tilt of the season.
