HOUSTON ? The UTSA soccer team snapped its five-match losingstreak with a 3-1 victory at Houston on Friday night in its final non-conference contest of the year.
The Roadrunners (2-6-1) grabbed the early lead when sophomore Jenny Munoz scoredher first goal of the season at the 36-minute mark of the first half.Sophomore Halee Hamm was credited with the assist. Houston (4-3-2)knotted the match at one on Islara Rodriguez’s goal with 4:01 remainingin the frame.
UTSA regained the lead just before the half when sophomore EzinneOkpo dribbled down the middle of the field and lobbed a shot over thegoalie.
Sophomore Veronica Najera’s goal gave theRoadrunners a 3-1 lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
Okpo tallied a team-high four shots, while freshman Alli Dillonrecorded three. Sophomore Kim Selman andHamm each collected one assist apiece.
UTSA goalie Rachel Francis hadfour saves and sophomore Kasi Hebert totaled four of her own in the secondhalf.
The Roadrunners open Southland Conference play on Oct 5. when they travel to Nicholls State.
