Stephen F. Austin downs UTSA in three games on Friday

NACOGDOCHES ? Outside hitter Lauren Railey led a balanced offensive attack and Stephen F. Austin sent UTSA to its fourth consecutive defeat on Friday night with a sweep at Johnson Coliseum (30-21, 30-13, 30-21).

The Ladyjacks, the defending Southland Conference Champions, won their seventh consecutive match to improve to 13-5 overall (3-0 SLC). The victory also was SFA’s 54th in a row in SLC regular season play. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners saw their record fall to 7-12 overall and 0-3 in league play for the first time since 1994.

Stephen F. Austin used an 11-3 run to close out game one and took a commanding 2-0 lead into the locker room after handing the Roadrunners a 17-point setback one frame later.

UTSA came out of intermission strong, leading 10-5 early, but SFA then went on a 16-3 run to take control and cruise to its fifth consecutive three-game win.

Railey led five Ladyjacks that recorded at least seven kills with 20, as SFA hit .245 as a team. Setter JJ Jones just missed a triple double with nine winners, 25 assists and 10 digs, while libero Jami Hill collected a match-high 22 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland paced the Roadrunners offense with 10 kills, while senior outside hitter Cristina Almeida led five players in double figures with a dozen digs. UTSA had seven total blocks on the night and junior middle hitter Victoria Prior tied her season high with five block assists.

UTSA concludes its current nine-match road trip on Saturday when it plays at Sam Houston State (8-7, 2-1 SLC). First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum (please note time change).
