UTSA falls to Delaware on Friday night

SAN ANTONIO ?The UTSA soccer team fell, 2-0, against Delaware on Friday night innon-conference action at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex.

Delaware (4-2) scored the first goal of the match when Caitlyn Germainreceived a pass from Emily Sammis at the 13-minute mark of the firsthalf. The Blue Hens upped their lead to 2-0 when Amy Pickard lobbed a shotover UTSA’s goalkeeper with less than two minutes remaining the frame.

Second half action saw UTSA (1-5-1) get plenty of great looks toscore, but Delaware’s Annie Bevan made several key stops topreserve the 2-0 win. Freshman Jenna Pawelek had an opportunity to putthe Roadrunners on the scoreboard, but Bevan was able to punchPawelek’s attempt. Sophomore Veronica Najera also had three goodlooks, including one that sailed high off the crossbar.

Despite being outshot 6-1 in the first half, the Roadrunners held a15-5 advantage in the second half. Najera and freshman Alli Dillon ledUTSA with four shots apiece, while sophomore Kylee Hix and Chelsea Zimmermanhad two attempts.

Meanwhile, Amy Pickard led Delaware with five shots, while Germaintallied three shots. Bevan collected seven saves, including six in thesecond half.

UTSA is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Iona at noon.
