ARLINGTON ? Outside hitter Teena Sobczak had a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs, as Texas-Arlington sent UTSA to its third loss in a row with a 30-19, 30-26, 30-23 sweep on Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall.
The Roadrunners saw their record fall to 7-11 overall and 0-2 in Southland Conference play, while the Mavericks won their fourth match in a row to improve to 9-6 (2-0 SLC).
After falling behind early in the first game, 3-1, UTA went on a 14-3 run to take control and cruise to the 11-point win. The Mavericks then posted a wire-to-wire second-frame victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the locker room. Texas-Arlington hit .308 following the intermission and wrapped up the sweep with a seven-point victory in game three.
Junior middle hitter Victoria Prior led UTSA with a dozen kills, while freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland also was in double figures with 10. Freshman setter Jordan White saw her most extensive action of the year and handed out 27 assists, while junior libero Audrey Hiser collected 16 digs, which was her eighth match in a row in double digits.
Middle blocker Gina Kalb added nine kills and six total blocks (1 solo/5 assists) for Texas-Arlington, while setter Emily Nedderman dished out 38 helpers and recorded six winners.
UTSA is back in action next weekend when it travels east to face Stephen F. Austin on Friday and Sam Houston State the following afternoon. The two contests will mark the end of the Roadrunners’ current nine-match road trip.
