CORPUS CHRISTI ? Led by top-10 finishes from the relay tandems of sophomore Faith Barlow and freshman Jayde James for the women and senior Eric Miller and freshman Josh Bart for the men, the UTSA cross country teams opened the 2007 campaign with a solid showing at the Islander Relay Race held Friday evening at West Guth Park.
Barlow and James covered a combined 4.5 miles in 28:59 for eighth place in the women’s race to lead all Roadrunners. Freshman Baylee Holder and sophomore Katy Spence were 17th in 31:03, while freshmen Alana Howard and Ashley Mercer finished 18th in 31:19.
Miller and Bart teamed up for a 43:03 clocking over the combined eight-mile course, taking 10th place overall. The duo led a trio of Roadrunner relay teams as freshmen Dominick Zucconi and Brandon Chiuminetta were 11th in 43:04, while senior Larry Brooks and sophomore Corey Vargas took 12th in 43:09.
UTSA returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos.
