Roadrunners fall in three games on Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ? Weber State hit .351, served up nine service aces and recorded 9.5 total blocks and swept UTSA by scores of 30-13, 30-24 and 30-14 in the opening match of the 12th annual North Florida Labor Day Classic on Friday. The Roadrunners dropped to 1-4 on the year, while the Wildcats evened their 2007 record to 1-1.

Weber State registered a .500 hitting percentage (14 kills/no errors) en route to a convincing 17-point victory in the first game. After UTSA pulled with two at 5-3, the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run that extended the lead to 10 points. Weber State went on to score 15 of the final 23 points for the victory.

The Roadrunners kept it close through the first half of the second stanza, but the Wildcats used a 7-3 run to go up 20-13 and never looked back. UTSA made a late run, pulling within four at 27-23, but Weber State scored three of the final four points to take a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.

It was all Wildcats after the break, as they hit .565 in the third and final game (14 kills/1 error), while keeping UTSA in the red (-.043).

Junior middle hitter Victoria Prior led the Roadrunners with eight winners (.353 pct.), while freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland led the way defensively with nine digs.

Outside hitter Chelsea Bair was the star for Weber State, as she recorded a match-high 14 kills (.414 pct.) and six service aces. Outside hitter Micah Lines added 14 winners, libero Caitlyn Anderson had a match-best 16 digs and middle blocker Kolbie Murphey registered five total blocks (1 solo/4 assists).

UTSA is back in action bright and early Saturday morning when it plays North Florida (0-3) at 9 a.m. (CT). The Roadrunners then will wrap up tournament play at 3 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State (2-1).
