SAN ANTONIO
- UTSA head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair announced Wednesday the 2007-08 women’s basketball schedule, which is highlighted by three tournaments, including two at home. The Roadrunners play Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia Tech and two Conference USA schools (Tulsa, SMU) and a full slate of 16 Southland Conference games.

“Our schedule is as tough as its been in years past, but the only difference is we have more home games than away games, Rippetoe-Blair said. “We do play good opponents on the road such as Missouri State and Tulsa, who are always competing for a conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Tulane Tournament will be a good test for us, especially opening against Virginia Tech, a school from a big conference. We feel that our schedule is competitive enough to get us prepared once conference starts.”

UTSA warms up with a pair of exhibition games against the Houston Jaguars on Oct. 31 and Dallas Diesel four days later (Nov. 4) before opening the regular season with a five-game home stand beginning with Huston-Tillotson on Nov. 9 and concluding with its annual UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 23-24. Arkansas, Georgia Southern and New Orleans comprise the field. The Roadrunners will be tested midway through their non-conference schedule with a five-game road trip beginning at Missouri State on Nov 29, followed by Tulsa two days later.

After a two-week layoff, UTSA continues its five-game road swing at Florida International on Dec. 14 and at the Tulane Doubletree Tournament in New Orleans on Dec. 20-21. UTSA closes out the calendar year with the Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic on Dec. 29-30. Miami (Ohio), Tennessee-Chattanooga and Weber State will take part in the classic.

UTSA opens the new year with a home game against SMU on Jan. 2 and then begins SLC play against Lamar on Jan. 12. The Roadrunners make their first visit to Conway, Ark., to face Central Arkansas on Jan. 17 and  then make their way to Louisiana for a game at Northwestern State. UTSA returns home to host defending SLC Regular Season and Tournament Champion UT Arlington on Jan. 24, before hitting the road to San Marcos to take on I-35 rival Texas State on Jan. 26.

The month of February features eight games, including a three-game home stand that starts with Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 9 and concludes against SLC East Division members Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State on Feb. 14 and 16, respectively.

The Roadrunners then travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 1, return home to host Sam Houston State on March 6 and end the regular season at SFA on March 8.
