BOISE, Idaho ? UTSA dropped to 0-3 on the 2007 season when it was swept by both No. 24 Santa Clara and Cal State Fullerton during Saturday's final day of the Bronco Invitational.

Santa Clara (2-0), on the strength of a .393 hitting percentage, swept the Roadrunners by scores of 30-18, 30-18 and 30-15 on Saturday morning.

UTSA hung tough in the first game, but after they pulled within one at 11-10, the Broncos steadily pulled away and cruised to a 12-point victory. The two teams battled back and forth in the second stanza with seven ties in the early going, but Santa Clara proved to be too much and rolled to a second consecutive 30-18 triumph. It was all Broncos after the intermission and they wrapped up the sweep with a 15-point game three win.

Freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland paced the UTSA offense with eight winners. Defensively, senior outside hitter Cristina Almeida led the way with eight digs.

Outside hitter Lindsy Evans led the Broncos with a career-high 20 kills (.395 pct.) and four blocks. Setter Crystal Matich handed out 48 assists and outside hitter Brittany Lowe added 12 digs.

Later in the day, Cal State Fullerton (1-2) won its first match of the year with a 30-13, 30-21, 30-24 victory against the Roadrunners. The Titans hit .231 on offense and recorded 54 digs and 8.5 blocks on defense while limiting UTSA to a .062 hitting percentage.

Cal State Fullerton broke open a close first game with a 10-0 run midway through the stanza and put the contest away by scoring the final seven points. In the final two games, the Roadrunners made things interesting, but they could not overcome large deficits in both, as they were swept for the third time this season.

Junior middle hitter Victoria Prior hit .368 and led UTSA with nine kills, while junior defensive specialist Audrey Hiser paced the squad with 16 digs.

Outside hitter Jennifer Francisco had a team-high 11 winners for the Titans and setter Julie Geissert posted 34 assists and 14 digs.

Following the tournament's final match, Rowland was named to the all-tournament team. The Antioch, Calif., native recorded 28 kills and 13 digs in her first three collegiate matches.

UTSA opens its 2007 home slate on Tuesday when they welcome Texas-Pan American to the Convocation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
