SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA soccer team kicks off the 2007 season with its first practice on Wednesday at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex beginning at 7 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. session and a 3:30 p.m. workout.
Last season, the Roadrunners finished 8-9-2 overall and in second place in the Southland Conference standings with a 5-1-2 mark. Last week, UTSA was picked second and third, respectively, in the SLC preseason SIDs and coaches polls. Head coach Steve Ballard welcomes back 18 letterwinners, including nine starters, along with eight newcomers this season.
SLC Freshman of the Year sophomore Chelsea Zimmerman was a preseason first-team all-conference honoree. The Mansfield native led UTSA with nine goals and 24 points. Joining Zimmerman on the Preseason ALL-SLC team are sophomores Ezinne Opko, Chea Pajak and Veronica Najera (second team).
UTSA opens its season on the road at SMU at 5:30 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 31.
