SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA’s tandem of Adam Becker and Robin Fernandes closed out their summer on a high note last week at the ITA Summer Circuit event in College Station.
The pair entered doubles competition as the top seed and advanced to the round of 16 with a bye, followed by an 8-6 victory against Tyler Cobb and Devin Harley to move on to the semifinal round, before falling to Zac Nichols and Chris Price 8-2 in the finals.
Fernandes, who was the No. 3 seed in singles, cruised past Mitchell Sholty and Marc Dwyer in straight sets to advance to round of eight. He then collected a 5-6, 6-1 (10-6) win over Chase Holliday to reach the finals but fell to top seed Aaron Carpenter in straight sets (7-6, 6-2).
Becker, who was seeded sixth, opened singles action with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Carlos Machado, but Blake Davis defeated Becker in straight sets in the quarterfinals (6-1, 6-4).
