Saltzgaber signs professional contract with Gateway Grizzlies

Ryan Saltzgaber

SAN ANTONIO ? Former UTSA third baseman Ryan Saltzgaber, a 2007 third-team All-Southland Conference and All-SLC Tournament Team selection, recently signed a professional contract with the Frontier League's Gateway Grizzlies. Saltzgaber joins Blake Brannon (Los Angeles Dodgers) as Roadrunners who have inked pro contracts this summer.

Saltzgaber hit .343 with 12 doubles, a pair of triples, nine home runs and 40 RBIs as a senior in 2007. He ranked second on the club in batting average, multi-hit contests (25), homers, total bases (122) and slugging percentage (.530) and third in hits (79). The Abilene native had a career-high 10-game hitting streak from March 11-27, recorded six three-hit performances and school-record-tying five-hit contest (vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, May 5) and also tied the UTSA mark with five runs scored against the Islanders on May 5. Saltzgaber was even better in league play, recording a .346 batting average with seven doubles, a triple, six long balls, 23 RBIs and a .559 slugging percentage. He finished his career ranked among the top 10 on UTSA's lists for at bats (642/No. 9), hits (198/T-No. 6) and triples (9/No. 5).

He joins former Roadrunner Stephen Holdren (2005) on the Grizzlies. Holdren, who was just named a Frontier League All-Star, is hitting .333 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs this season.
