INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ? UTSA senior All-American Ryanne Dupree finished eighth in the heptathlon at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held over the weekend at Carroll Stadium.
Competing against the best professional and collegiate athletes in the nation, Dupree scored 5,582 points in scoring her highest finish in three appearances at the meet, bettering a 10th-place showing in 2005.
Dupree finished day one in sixth place after posting 3,442 points. She opened with a 13.61 clocking in the 100-meter hurdles, cleared 5-7 ? in the high jump, measured 38-3 ? in the shot put and timed 24.96 in the 200m.
On day two, the four-time All-American leaped to an 18-10 ? mark in the long jump, tossed 114-6 in the javelin and covered 800m in 2:22.23 to conclude the competition.
Hyleas Fountain (Nike) won with 6,090 points, followed by Diana Pickler of Washington State (6,029), Virginia Johnson (6002), Fiona Asigbee (5,908), NCAA Champion Jacquelyn Johnson of Arizona State (5,826), Julie Pickler of Washington State (5,654) and Gayle Hunter of Penn State (5,600). Following Dupree’s 5,582-point total were Danielle McNaney (5,555), Lela Nelson of Nike (5,536), Olubukopla Bamigboye (5,446), Bettie Wade (5,429), Reidun Wallin (5,362), Lauren Collins of UC Irvine (5,329), Etienne Chaplin of Arkansas (5,320), Ashley Wilhelm of Cincinnati (5,268) and Jackie Poulson (5,180).
Dupree’s name now goes into a pool for Team USA competition at a number of international meets later this summer. She has represented the country at the Netherlands Heptathlon Challenge each of the last two summers.
In USA Junior Outdoor Championships action, freshman Jessica Jones finished seventh in her preliminary heat of the 100m hurdles with a 14.17 clocking and did not advance.
