FRISCO ? UTSA sophomores Sandra Kukla and Karen Scida were named to the 2007 Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Women’s Tennis All-Academic First Team and sophomore Monika Drabkova was a second-team honoree, the league office announced Tuesday.
Kukla picked up her first academic honor after finishing the 2007 campaign with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average (gpa) in communications. She collected nine wins in singles action, including an 8-3 mark at the No. 2 position.
Scida earned first-team honors for the first time in her career. She ended the year with a 3.80 gpa in chemistry. The Tucuman, Argentina, native tallied 12 wins on the season while playing at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions. Scida totaled nine victories at No. 3 singles and also was a two-time SLC Player of the Week honoree.
Drabkova earned second-team honors with a 3.88 gpa in international business. She recorded a career-high 13 wins in singles action this past spring, while going 9-2 in SLC play. The Prague, Czech Republic, native was outstanding at the No. 5 slot, as she posted an 8-3 mark.
