NACOGDOCHES ? Senior All-American Ryanne Dupree won her third individual title of the meet on Sunday and finished as the meet's high-point scorer with 39.5 points to lead the UTSA women’s track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships held at Fletcher Garner Track.
Dupree won her third conference crown in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 13.47 seconds for top honors. It marked the 13th regional qualifier of the season for Dupree, who broke a seven year-old school record with a 13.25 at the Kansas Relays two weeks ago. The victory doubled her total of outdoor titles to six to go along with one 4x100m relay crown in 2005, and combined with three indoor crowns, gave her 10 for her career.
Dupree, the 2005 SLC Outdoor Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Track Performer, broke her own meet record in the heptathlon on Saturday, scoring 5,593 points to better her previous mark of 5,465 set two years ago. The East Central High product already punched her ticket for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event with a school-record 5,818 at the Texas Relays last month. Dupree also won the long jump with a personal-best 20-6 ? measure and finished second in the high jump with a career-high 5-8 ? clearance yesterday.
Today, Dupree ran the third leg on the third-place 4x100m relay team that clocked a 45.76, joining junior Brittany Epps and sophomores Ashley Jackson and Shanelle Slaughter for the bronze behind Texas-Arlington (45.44) and Sam Houston State (45.61).
Senior Lyndsey Sidney posted a career-best and regional-qualifying 13.69 for second place behind Dupree in the 100m hurdles. She bettered her previous personal best of 13.71 posted in Saturday’s prelims. Sidney also finished seventh in the 400m hurdles in 1:10.05.
Jackson and Epps teamed with seniors Veronica Silva and Diane Smith for a third-place showing in the 4x400m relay, passing the baton to a season-best 3:44.14 clocking behind Texas State (3:41.60) and Sam Houston State (3:42.77).
Jackson also placed fifth in the 200m in 24.27, while senior Hope Jimenez took fifth in the 1,500m in 4:51.77 and 11th in the 800m in 2:22.14.
Freshman Faith Barlow was seventh in the 1,500m in 4:53.50, Epps was eighth in the 400m in 58.34, Silva was eighth in the 800m in 2:16.11, while sophomore Brittney Britton finished 10th in 2:18.90.
In the team standings, UTSA scored 93 points for fourth place behind Texas State (177.5), Sam Houston State (124) and Stephen F. Austin (123) and ahead of Lamar (86) and Texas-Arlington (71.5).
Dupree and Sidney will represent UTSA at the NCAA Midwest Regional on May 25-26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
