DES MOINES, Iowa ? Freshman Johnathan Whittaker and the 4x100-meter relay team turned in personal bests to highlight action for the UTSA men’s track and field team Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
Whittaker cleared a career-best 6-11 in the high jump to finish 11th in the field of 22 competitors. That 2.11-meter effort bettered his previous best of 2.10 meters posted at UTSA Relays in March.
The 4x100m relay team of junior Cedric Harris, senior Scott Briscoe, freshman Teddy Williams and junior Steven Brown passed the baton to their second consecutive season-best clocking. The foursome crossed in 40.12 to finish fifth just ahead of Baylor’s 40.22.
In other action, Harris raced to a 10.41 clocking to finish sixth in the 100m, while senior Benson Cheserek finished 14th in the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:22.37.
In the team standings, UTSA scored seven points to finish 24th. Oklahoma won with 75.33 points.
Senior All-American Brandon Buteaux heads up a list of qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championships set for June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
