Rogers named to All-Southland Conference Tournament squad

HUNTSVILLE ? UTSA senior Jessica Rogers added another honor to impressive resum? over the weekend as she was one of 11 players selected to the 2007 Southland Conference All-Tournament Team.

Rogers batted .455 (5-for-11) with a double, a home run, four runs batted in, two runs scored, a .818 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage and also produced a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage as UTSA went 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament last week at Bearkat Softball Complex. The South Grand Prairie High product was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including the game-winning, two-run double in the top of the seventh of the 4-0 opening round win against Texas State on Thursday. Rogers had a hit in each game, including her SLC career-leading 69th home run ? a two-run blast to left field ? in the 6-2 loss to UTA on Friday.

Rogers joined five players from runner-up Texas State (Karen Taylor, Alex Newton, Jetta Weinheimer, Leah Boatright and Ragan Blake), three from champion Sam Houston State (MVP Brandi Crnkovic, Lauren Burns and Tanya Hooser) and two from regular season champion UTA (Dee Jay Nelson and Kristin Moore) on the squad. Sam Houston State defeated Texas State, 1-0, in the championship game on Saturday to earn the league’s automatic-qualifying berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Bearkats will travel to College Station this weekend, where they will face No. 4 national seed Texas A&M in the opening round. Houston and Louisiana-Lafayette also are in the four-team regional.
