Dupree named Southland Conference Athlete of the Year on Tuesday

FRISCO ? After scoring 39.5 points at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships last weekend, UTSA senior Ryanne Dupree has been voted the 2007 SLC Athlete of the Year by the league's head coaches. In addition, Dupree was voted the women's Outstanding Field Performer.

Already an All-American, Dupree won her third individual title of the meet on the final day and finished as the meet's high-point scorer with 39.5 points to lead the UTSA women to a fourth-place finish. She won her third conference crown in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 13.47 seconds for top honors. It marked the 13th regional qualifier of the season for Dupree. The victories doubled her total of outdoor titles to six to go along with one 400m relay crown in 2005, and combined with three indoor crowns, gives her 10 for her career.

Dupree, the 2005 SLC Outdoor Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Track Performer, broke her own meet record in the heptathlon on Saturday, scoring 5,593 points to better her previous mark of 5,465 set two years ago. The East Central High product already punched her ticket for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event with a school-record 5,818 at the Texas Relays last month. Dupree also won the long jump with a personal-best 20-6 ? measure and finished second in the high jump with a career-high 5-8 ? clearance.

Sunday, Dupree ran the third leg on the third-place 4x100m relay team that clocked a 45.76.
