NACOGDOCHES ?Senior All-American Brandon Buteaux and sophomore Tommy Wolfe led a trio of first-dayperformances by the UTSA men’s track & field team on Friday at theSouthland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Buteaux, who currently ranks fifth nationally and is in search of his first SLC decathlon title, scored a first-day total of 3,795 points. Wolfe, who finished second in the event a year ago, trails his teammate by just four points at 3,791. The pair is more than 100 points in front McNeese State’s Jon Fagan, who stands in third place (3,683). Buteaux and Wolfe finished among the top three in four of the five events contested on Friday.
Junior Luke Johnson recorded the Roadrunners’ first pointsof the meet when he finished fourth in the hammer. Johnson recorded a throw of54.20m (177-10) to give UTSA five points in the event.
The three-day meet continues on Saturday at Fletcher Garner Track at HomerBryce Stadium.
