FRISCO ? After leading the UTSA men’s golf team to a third-place finish at the 2007 Southland Conference Championships, sophomore Kyle Collins and junior Thomas Kearney earned the first all-conference honors of their careers when they were named to the All-Southland Conference third team on Thursday afternoon.
Kearney collected four top-10 finishes, including two top-five showings on the season. He posted a team-best 73 stroke average, while playing in 10 tournaments. A week ago, Kearney placed seventh at the SLC Championships with a 70-69-77=216. The Donegal, Ireland, native had his best showing with a fourth-place finish at the UTSA Invitational on Oct. 24-25.
Meanwhile, Collins ended the year ranked third on the squad with a 73.90 stroke average. He participated in 11 tournaments and had four top-10 showings. Collins turned in a 74-74-71=219 and finished tied for 12th at the conference championships. The San Antonio native twice finished third in two tournaments (Del Walker Intercollegiate, Battle of the Bend).
