SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA head women’s soccer coach Steve Ballard announced Tuesday the signing of seven student-athletes for the 2007 season, with six players from the state of Texas.
“Being our second recruiting class, we have been able to bring in excellent players that can perform on the field as well as in the classroom.” Ballard said. “This class is very athletic and will provide an immediate impact on our program.”
Laurel Dierking - Bastrop - Bastrop H.S.-Austin United S.C.-Forward/Midfield- 5-5 - Second-team all-district in 2004 and honorable mention in 2005. Dierking was named first-team all-district in 2006 and 2007. She totaled 65 career goals and was a two-time Offensive Most Valuable Player (2005 and 2006).
Allison (Alli) Dillon - Yorba Linda, Calif. - El Dorado H.S.- Arsenal White S.C.- Forward/Midfield-5-6 - Led her team to top 10 rankings in Orange County from 2004-06. She guided her squad to the Premier League Championship in back-to-back seasons (2004 and 2005).
Joy Jarrell - Flower Mound - Flower Mound Marcus H.S.-Dallas Sting Royal S.C.- Midfield-5-2 - Her team has been nationally ranked in the top 10 over the last three seasons, currently the Marauders rank third in the nation. Her squad was regional and state champions in 2005, while last season they reached the state semifinals. Jarrell also garnered Houston Showcase Most Valuable Player Award in 2004.
Allison McCabe - Arlington - Nolan Catholic H.S.- Dallas Fort Worth Tejanos Elite S.C.- Goalkeeper-5-5 - Led her squad to the TAPPS Division I state semifinals and named to the TAPPS Final Four All-Tournament Team in 2006. She was named to the Fort Worth Star Telegram Super Team and collected second-team all-district honors last season. She also earned Nolan Showcase All-Tournament Team this past season. During her four-year stint, she recorded 13 shutouts, collected 102 saves and posted a 1.03 goals against average.
Kathleen (Kat) Morel-Irving - Irving H.S. - Dallas Sting Royal S.C.-Midfield/Forward- 5-6 - Newcomer of the Year in 2004 and received the Offensive MVP Award from 2004-06. Morel was a three-time first-team all-district honoree (2004, 2005 and 2006). Her team was State Cup Champions in 2004 and State Cup finalists in 2005.
Jenna Pawelek - Spring - Klein Collins H.S. - Texas Rush Nike S.C.-Defender-5-5 -Second-team all-district in 2004 and first-team all-district from 2005-07. All-region nominee last season and voted team captain in 2005 and 2006. She is the all-time minutes leader at Klein Collins H.S. Led her team to Bi-District Championships from 2004-06.
Lauren Schultz - San Antonio - Winston Churchill H.S.- Classics Elite S.C. ? Midfield -5-3 - Second-team all-district in 2004 and first-team all-district 2005 and 2006. She led her team in with 13 goals and 10 assists in 2006. Currently, she has recorded 34 goals and 32 assists. Led her team to the region playoffs in 2005 and 2006.
