Roadrunners drop SLC Final to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

SAN ANTONIO - Top-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated the No. 3 seed UTSA men’s tennis team, 4-0, at the 2007 Southland Conference Tennis final on Monday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners ended their season with a 12-12 record on the year, while the Islanders improved to 16-5 overall.

AM-CC took the early 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. The Islanders won at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, Raul Morant-Rivas gave Texas A&M-Corpus Christi a 2-0 advantage with a 6-2, 7-5 win against sophomore Robin Fernandes at the No. 2 spot. The Islanders pushed their lead to 3-0 when Andrey Kumantsov handed freshman Rodrigo Morgado a 7-6, 6-2 loss at the No. 1 slot. Jose Zunino then clinched the match with a straight-set victory (7-5, 6-2) against senior Nate Avila at No. 5.
