SAN ANTONIO - The No. 3 seed UTSA men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 Southland Conference Men's Tournament with a 4-1 win against the No. 6 seed Texas-Pan American on Friday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Broncs opened the day by winning the doubles point at No. 2 and No. 3 slots and took an early 1-0 lead.
In singles action, sophomore Andre Moreira tied the match at one with his 6-0, 6-1 win against Shashank Vij at the No. 4 position. UTSA took a 2-1 lead when freshman Rodrigo Morgado cruised past Ivan Avila in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). Freshman Nenad Maric pushed the Roadrunner lead to 3-1 with his victory against David Lopez-Heredia (6-2, 6-2). Sophomore Robin Fernandes clinched the match for UTSA when he came off the court with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Gary Bianco at No. 2.
UTSA returns to action at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday against No. 2 seed Texas-Arlington.
