Texas-Arlington ends UTSA season on Friday

- No. 3 seed Texas-Arlington ended the No. 6 seed UTSA women's tennis team season with a 4-2 win in first-round action of the 2007 Southland Conference Women's Tournament on Friday morning at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Mavericks picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 position. Meanwhile, junior Tanya Hasking and sophomore Karen Scida won their match, 8-4, against Monika Peciulionyte and Simir Van Rooyen at No. 1 doubles.

In singles action, UTA pushed its lead 2-0 when Van Rooyen handed sophomore Monika Drabkova a 6-0, 6-2, loss at the No. 3 singles slot. The Mavericks took a commanding 3-0 lead after Peciulionyte won in straights sets (6-3, 6-0) against Scida at No. 1. However, UTSA got within 3-2 when Hasking and freshman Holly Phillips collected straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. UTA's Sofya Lifanova clinched the match for the Mavericks with a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Nathalie Wallin.
