SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s track & field team will split its squad between two meets on Saturday, sending eight Roadrunners to the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Ga., and the rest of the team to the David Noble Angelo State Relays.
Seniors Ryanne Dupree, Lyndsey Sidney, Veronica Silva and Diane Smith; junior Brittany Epps; sophomores Ashley Jackson and Shanelle Slaughter; and freshman Jessica Jones will compete in the Spec Towns Invitational, which gets underway with the hammer throw at 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday.
The David Noble Angelo State Relays kicks off with the running preliminaries at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Roadrunners have enjoyed a solid outdoor season through the first month, headlined by Dupree. A three-time All-American, she has been named Aeropostale/Southland Conference Athlete of the Week three times through four meets. She earned her last award on Tuesday after demolishing her own school record in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays last week, scoring 5,818 points for second place. That mark currently ranks second in the nation and also meets the NCAA automatic-qualifying and Olympic B-qualifying standards.
