SAN MARCOS –
Senior All-American Ryanne Dupree had a hand in three of six victories as the UTSA women’s track & field team posted 23 top-three finishes at the Bobcat Open held Friday at Bobcat Stadium.

Dupree posted her second consecutive NCAA regional qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles, cruising to a 13.82 for one of two individual crowns for the East Central High product. She also won the long jump with a leap of 18-9 ¾ and ran the third leg on the victorious 4x100m relay team, combining with sophomores Shanelle Slaughter and Ashley Jackson and junior Epps for a season-best 46.29 clocking.

Seniors Veronica Silva and Diane Smith impressed in the 800m, finishing one-two with times of 2:12.98 and 2:15.16, respectively.

Junior Chelsea Malina was the top collegian in the javelin, measuring a personal-best throw of 135-10 for second overall behind former Texas A&M NCAA Champion Katy Doyle (153-9).

Freshman Jessica Jones was UTSA’s other winner, taking top honors in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.65.

“Today showed me we have a pretty good track and field team,” head coach James Blackwood said. “We had a lot of very good performances in a lot of different areas, and we’re seeing good marks for this early in the outdoor season. I’m excited about what we have the ability to accomplish this spring.”

It was a busy afternoon for Dupree as she also tied with junior Ashley Allen for second in the high jump as both cleared 5-4 ¼, placed second among collegians behind Malina in the javelin with a season long 122-10 effort and took third in the shot put with a 36-2 ¼ mark.

Jones was strong in the 100m hurdles, finishing second behind Dupree in 14.87, while Allen took third in 15.03. Jackson and Slaughter finished two-three in the 200m, clocking times of 25.05 and 25.61, respectively.
