HOUSTON – The UTSA women’s basketball team dropped a 70-52 decision to top seed Texas-Arlington on Friday afternoon in the second semifinal of the O’Reilly Auto Parts/Southland Conference Tournament. The Roadrunners finished the season with a 14-16 record.

Junior Terrie Davis led UTSA with a team-high 20 points, while senior Vivian Ewafelo chipped with 14 and hauled in five rebounds in her final game as a Roadrunner. Sophomore Monica Gibbs added nine points and dished out game-high six assists.

Terra Wallace paced Texas-Arlington (23-8) with a game-high 26 points. Maryann Abanobi and Tiffeny Riles added 12 and 10 points, respectively, and Ashley Bobb grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Wallace pushed the Mavericks' lead to 36-25 when she scored on a layup with 16:59 to go in the game. Davis’ 3-pointer brought UTSA within four at 43-39, but it would be the closet the Roadrunners would get the rest of the way. Riles completed a three-point play to push the lead back to double digits with 3:59 to go. A pair of free throws by Davis with 2:19 remaining pulled UTSA within seven at 57-50, but the Mavericks connected on late freebies to seal the 18-point win.

Texas-Arlington jumped to an early 13-2 lead on the strength of Abanobi's six points. Freshman Lynsey Freeman’s three-point play cut the deficit 15-8 with 9:13 to play in the half, but the Mavericks extended their lead to 28-19 on a free throw by Erin Dixon with five seconds left in the frame. However, sophomore Andrea Garcia banked in a long 3-pointer as the time expired to make the score 28-22 at the half.
