SAN ANTONIO – UTSA won its fifth consecutive match on Thursday with a 5-2 victory against Connecticut at the UTSATennisCenter. The Roadrunners improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Huskies saw their record fall to 3-6.

UTSA got off to a solid start by winning all three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead.

Junior Tanya Hasking and sophomore Karen Scida handed Jessica Porter and Breann Cheung an 8-3 defeat at the No. 1 position, while sophomores Nathalie Wallin and Sandra Kukla picked up a hard-fought 8-7 decision at the No. 2 slot against Kelley LoRusso and Alison Campitiello. Freshman Holly Phillips and sophomore Monika Drabkova completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory against Elizabeth Dibbs and Christine Burek.

The Roadrunners collected wins in four of the day’s six singles matches to clinch the victory. Wallin rolled past Burek in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 1 position, while Hasking (6-2, 6-2) and Phillips (6-3, 6-4) also won in two sets at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Scida was the Roadrunners’ other winner on the day, as she picked up a three-set triumph against Porter at the No. 3 spot (5-7, 6-1, 6-2).



UTSA returns to action this weekend when it travels to Louisiana for a pair of Southland Conference matches. The Roadrunners open the conference slate at 11 a.m. on Saturday at NichollsState and then travel to Southeastern Louisiana for a 10 a.m. match the following day.
