No. 48 East Tennessee State downs UTSA on Monday

SAN ANTONIO
– No. 48 East Tennessee State handed the UTSA men’s tennis team a 5-2 loss on Monday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center. The Roadrunners saw their five-match winning streak come to an end and dropped to 7-5, while the Buccaneers improved to 11-3 overall.

East Tennessee State began the day winning two of the three doubles matches for the 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers then won four of the six singles matches to clinch the match.

ESTU took a 3-0 lead when Sebastian Serrano and Lisandro Picardo won their singles match at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Sophomore Andre Moreira put UTSA on the board when he picked up the 6-4, 6-1 victory against Felix Insaurralde at the No. 3 slot. Sophomore Robin Fernandes pulled the Roadrunners within one point at 3-2 with his straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-4, 7-6). However, ETSU won at the No. 2 and No. 6 spots to wrap up the match.

UTSA returns to action when it hosts Connecticut on Thursday at 3 p.m.
