Roadrunners win fourth game in a row on Tuesday night

· Box score

EDINBURG – Junior Trent Lockwood’s RBI triple in the fifth brought home the go-ahead run and UTSA picked up its fourth consecutive win on Tuesday night with a 7-3 come-from-behind victory at Texas Pan-American.

The Roadrunners improved to 14-11 with their eighth victory in the last nine games, while the Broncs lost for the eighth time in their past 10 contests and dropped to 11-21 on the season.

With the game tied at one in the fifth, sophomore Michael Rockett cracked a one-out double off the left-field wall. Lockwood followed with his first triple of the year to give the Roadrunners the lead for good at 2-1 and extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Senior Ryan Saltzgaber then stroked single through the drawn-in infield to bring in Lockwood and extend his streak to 10 games.

After the Broncs pulled within one with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, UTSA added a pair of insurance tallies the next frame when redshirt freshman Tim Palincsar drove in juniors Phillip Allen and Marshal Davis with a one-out single up the middle. Allen walked to lead off the inning and Davis was hit by a pitch one batter later.

Palincsar, who was 3-for-6 with three RBIs, and Lockwood put the game out of reach with RBI doubles in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-2.

Senior Josh Blakley (3-0), who relieved UTSA starter Jake Sillavan with one down in the fifth, picked up his third win out of the bullpen this season. Blakley tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out three.

Lockwood was 2-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBIs, while Rockett added a pair of doubles in his five at bats. Sophomore James Keithley stroked a single up the middle with two down in the ninth to extend his career-high hitting streak to 13 games.

Making just his second career start, Sillavan gave up a pair of runs on four hits, walked three and fanned four in his 4.1 innings of work.

UTPA starter Josh Wymer (3-5), who entered the game with a 2.95 ERA in eight starts this season, allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out seven in six innings.

The Roadrunners return home on Friday for the beginning of a three-game Southland Conference series against Southeastern Louisiana. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.

UTSA enters the weekend set with a perfect 6-0 record in league play, its best SLC start in school history, while the Lions are 4-2 to open the conference season.
