Roadrunners Q&A with Karen Scida, Tanya Hasking

Junior Tanya Hasking and sophomore Karen Scida are the leagues top doubles partners at the No. 1 position with an overall record of 8-5 and 3-3 in conference play. Hasking and Scida have been playing together since last fall and have develop great chemistry between them. The duo will be looked upon this season for the Roadrunners in doubles play. The tandem sat down with fellow teammate Nathalie Wallin to discuss their success as a dominate force in the Southland Conference.

What makes both of you a good doubles team?
”The relationship between us is very good and usually we can read each other’s mind. Also, the communication between us works well, normally we know how the other one is thinking on the court.”

Which strategies do you have on the court?
”Before we start our matches, we always say to each other “keep it simple,” and that is how we try to play.”

What is working well for you this spring?
”We have been able to play many matches with each other, which has made us grow as a doubles team. We know each other on the court and usually are on the same game plan and strategies. Also, experience has helped us become a better doubles team.”

What is the greatest victory for you?
”The biggest victory for us was against Georgia Tech at the Rice Invitational in the fall.”

Do you have any nicknames you call each other on the court?
”Tanya: Usually I call Karen “Karencita.”
”Karen: And I call Tanya “Kate.”

Many people associate you as sisters, how does that feel?
”It feels weird, but at the same time we do not mind. It’s kind of funny people think we look similar.”
