Rogers named Aeropostale/SLC Hitter of the Week on Monday

Jessica Rogers

FRISCO — After helping UTSA to a series victory against Nicholls State and move into first place in the Southland Conference standings, senior Jessica Rogers was named Aeropostale/SLC Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Rogers continued her torrid pace at the plate in league play, hitting .545 last week with four home runs, five RBIs, five runs scored, three walks and a 1.455 slugging percentage. She tied a school record with three home runs in a 7-6 loss to Nicholls State on Saturday and then added a game-winning two-run blast in the fifth inning of the Roadrunners' 4-1 win in the nightcap. She was a combined 6-for-7 in the twinbill, as UTSA took over first place in the league standings with a pair of wins against the Colonels this past weekend.

The Grand Prairie native now is batting .500 (26-for-52) with nine home runs and 20 RBIs in conference play. Rogers continues to add to her SLC career home run record, which now stands at 63.

Rogers, who won the weekly honor for the second time in her career, is UTSA’s first Hitter of the Week pick since Jessica Els was selected on May 1, 2006.

The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Waco for a doubleheader at Baylor.
