FRSICO — UTSA junior catcher Zach Etheredge was named the Aeropostale/Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Etheredge continued his strong month of March by going 9-for-20 (.450) with three doubles, a triple, three home runs and 11 RBIs last week, as UTSA went 4-1 and improved to a perfect 6-0 in SLC play (best start in school history). He collected 23 total bases, had a 1.150 slugging percentage and reached base at a .478 clip. The Boerne native also scored five runs, walked two times and handled 44 chances without an error behind the plate.

Etheredge began the week by going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs on Tuesday against Lamar and followed that effort with two hits, a double and RBI single the following afternoon. He then started the Central Arkansas weekend series with a three-run blast that tied the game at seven, as UTSA went on for a 12-10 victory. Etheredge was 2-for-4 with a double and his fifth long ball in six games in Saturday’s 12-4 victory against the Bears. In Sunday’s series finale, he finished the weekend by going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and a pair of RBIs in the Roadrunners’ 14-1 victory.

UTSA's tri-captain has played in all 24 games this season and is hitting .333 with six doubles, a triple, five homers and 24 RBIs.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday night when they travel south for a 5 p.m. contest at Texas-Pan American.
