SAN MARCOS – The UTSA women’s tennis team fell 4-3 to I-35 rival Texas State on Sunday afternoon in Southland Conference action at the Texas State Tennis Complex.
The Roadrunners saw their record fall to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Bobcats improved to 8-5 and 4-2 in league play.
Texas State opened the match winning all three double matches for the 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats pushed their lead 2-0 when Rabea Hartman handed junior Tanya Hasking a 6-2, 6-2 loss at the No. 4 position. Down 2-0, UTSA tied the match when sophomores Karen Scida and Monika Drabkova collected straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. However, Ali Gulida’s win (7-5, 6-3) at the No. 6 slot gave Texas State a 3-2 lead. Ashley Ellis then pick up a 6-3, 7-6 victory at No. 1 that clinched the match for the Bobcats.
UTSA returns home for a pair of matches next week at the UTSA Tennis Center.
