· Box score

SAN ANTONIO – Lamar pounded out 19 hits off six UTSA pitchers, including four home runs, and slugged its way to a 14-7 non-conference victory on Wednesday at Roadrunner Field.

Redshirt freshman Tim Palincsar gave the Roadrunners (10-11) an early lead with his second home run of the year – a solo shot with one out in the first – but the Cardinals (16-9) responded with a four-spot in the second and two more runs in the third off UTSA starter Jake Sillavan.

After Lamar increased its lead to 7-1 on Travis Dunson’s solo shot in the fourth, sophomore James Keithley led off the fifth with his second homer of the season to draw UTSA within five at 7-2. The long ball extended Keithley’s hitting streak to nine games.

However, the Cardinals plated five runs on six hits in the seventh off junior J.T. Mackey to put the game out of reach.

Collin DeLome and Michael Ambort hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth to push the Cardinals’ advantage to 14-4 and Ambort’s homer was his second of the day and third of the season.

The Roadrunners plated four runs on just two hits in the eighth to complete the scoring.

Junior Trent Lockwood paced UTSA’s offense by going 3-for-5 with his sixth homer of the year, a solo shot to lead off the seventh, and two RBIs. Senior Ryan Saltzgaber and junior Zach Etheredge both added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Roadrunners, while Palincsar was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored.

Matison Smith (1-0), the first of five Lamar pitchers on the afternoon, earned his first victory of the season. Smith allowed one run on four hits in his two innings of work.

Sillavan (0-1) gave up six runs (four earned) on six hits and struck out two in three innings.

UTSA continues its five-game home stand on Friday when Central Arkansas visits Roadrunner Field for the first of a three-game Southland Conference series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
