Drabkova earns first career SLC Player of the Week honor

FRISCO – Sophomore Monika Drabkova collected her first career Aeropostale/Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Wednesday. She is the second Roadrunner to win the weekly honor, joining sophomore Karen Scida who was honored on Feb. 28.

Drabkova helped UTSA to a pair of SLC wins against Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin last weekend. She went 2-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles. She is 6-3 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in SLC play and has won four consecutive matches at No. 5 singles.

Against the Lady Bearkats, she handed Emma McDougall a 6-4, 6-4 loss. She then quickly disposed of SFA's Mary Harrison in straight sets (7-5, 6-1) on Sunday. In doubles, she paired up with Holly Phillips at the No. 3 spot and knocked off Emma McDougall and Lauren Janak of Sam Houston State, 8-6. The pair then teamed up for an 8-0 win against Tatiana Smolnikova and Rijalda Zejnic of SFA.

UTSA returns to action on Thursday against Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
