UTSA wins four events during final day of UTSA Relays

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field team picked up four victories during the final day of action at the eighth annual UTSA Relays on Saturday. The Roadrunners collected a total of six gold medals at the two-day meet, which was held at the Blossom Athletics Complex.

Sophomore Gaston Griffin circled the oval in 47.47 in winning the 400 meters championship division, while UTSA's 1,600-meter relay team of Griffin, senior Scott Briscoe, junior Dominic Brown and senior Brandon Buteaux were victorious in 3:18.92.

Freshman Corey Vargas won the Olympic Development division of the 1,500 meters in 4:11.44, leading a 1-2 finish by UTSA runners. Freshman Bryan Ugochukwu was second in 4:14.02.

In the triple jump, freshman Alton St. Rose led three Roadrunners in the top four when he skipped to a 14.12m. Freshman Mo Jackson was second (14.03m) and freshman Johnathan Whittaker placed fourth (13.82m).

Junior Eric Miller had a strong showing in the championship division of the 1,500 meters when he placed second in 4:08.91.

UTSA is back in action next weekend when it travels to Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Invitational. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, March 23.
