SAN ANTONIO – Two NCAA Regional qualifying marks and a pair of first-place finishes highlighted the UTSA men's track & field team's first day of action on Friday at the UTSA Relays.
Junior Will Vese and freshman Johnathan Whittaker both earned regional qualifying marks in the Roadrunners' first outdoor meet of the season. Vese, a national semifinalist a year ago, raced to a 14.19 in winning his 110-meter hurdles preliminary heat. Meanwhile, Whittaker cleared 2.10m (6-10 3/4) for a second-place performance in the high jump, a mark that puts him in third place on the school's all-time performers chart.
Freshman Mo Jackson won the long jump with a leap of 7.20m, while senior Benson Cheserek won the 3,000 meters in 8:45.07.
Other second-place finishers on the day for UTSA included senior Brandon Buteaux (long jump/6.92m) and junior Luke Johnson (shot put/16.14m).
The two-day meet concludes Saturday.
