Senior Larry Brooks is the fourth All-American in school history. |
METAIRIE, La. — Senior Larry Brooks, who competed in the 800 meters at last weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships, was named a 2007 All-American, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
The senior from Stafford becomes just the fourth athlete in UTSA men's track & field history to earn the prestigious honor and the third under the direction of fifth-year head coach Aaron Fox. He also is the first Division I honoree for first-year assistant coach Scott Slade.
Leonard Byrd was a three-time outdoor All-American from 1995-97 in the 400 meters, while Justin Youngblood earned honors in the multi-events in 2002 (decathlon) and '04 (heptathlon/decathlon). Current Roadrunner Brandon Buteaux, who has one outdoor season of eligibility remaining, collected his certificate in the heptathlon in 2005.
The top eight finishers in each event garner All-America status and in the individual events, if one ore more of the top eight finishers is of another nationality, eight U.S.-born collegians are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
