Women?s tennis upends Nicholls State in SLC opener

HAMMOND, La. – The UTSA women’s tennis team win its 2007 Southland Conference opener at Nicholls State on Saturday morning by a score of 6-1.

The Roadrunners extended their winning streak to six and improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in SLC play, while the Colonels dropped to 4-3 on the year and evened their mark to 1-1 in conference play.

UTSA took the doubles point by winning all three matches. Junior Tanya Hasking and sophomore Karen Scida cruised past Kralijn Sissingh and Sanja Stanojcic, 8-1, at the No. 1 slot. The pair has won five conseuctive matches and now stand at 6-3 this season.

The Roadrunners won four of the five single matches to clinch the victory. Nicholls State tied the match at one when Sara Hanesch defeated sophomore Nathalie Wallin 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Monika Drabkova and Scida won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively, to give UTSA a 3-1 advantage. Hasking sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Kralijn Sissingh and improved to 6-0 on the season at the No. 4 position.

UTSA travels to Southeastern Louisiana tomorrow for a 10 a.m. match.
