No. 73 Southeastern Louisiana downs UTSA, 6-1

HAMMOND, La. – No. 73 Southeastern Louisiana halted UTSA’s six-match winning streak with a 6-1 victory on Sunday in Southland Conference women’s tennis action.

The Roadrunners dropped to 7-3 on the season and 1-1 in SLC play, while the Lady Lions improved to 10-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.

SLU took the doubles point wining two of the three matches. Junior Tanya Hasking and sophomore Karen Scida collected an 8-5 win against Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac at the No. 1 spot. The pair improved to 7-3 on the season and has won six consecutive matches.

The Lady Lions won five the six singles matches on the day. Iva Velkovska and Breda Kovac picked up straight-set wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively, to push the lead 3-0. Sophomore Monika Drabkova put UTSA on the board with her 6-1, 6-4, win at No. 5, but the Lady Lions clinched the match when Nina Knavs defeated freshman Holly Phillips at the No. 6 position (6-2, 6-0).

UTSA returns home for a pair of SLC matches next weekend. The Roadrunners will host Sam Houston State on Saturday, March 17, and Stephen F. Austin the following day.
