Men?s tennis hands Lamar 6-1 loss on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team handed Lamar a 6-1 loss on Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference action at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners won for the seven time in their last eight matches and improved to 9-5 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in league play. The Cardinals dropped to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.

Lamar began the day winning two of the three doubles matches for the 1-0 lead. Junior Adam Becker and sophomore Robin Fernandes won their doubles match, 8-3, at the No.1 position.

UTSA swept all six singles matches on the day. Freshman Nenad Maric came off the court with a straight-set win (6-1, 6-1) against David Wanja to tie the match at one. The Roadrunners then took a 3-1 lead when sophomore Andre Moreira and Becker won their matches in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Fernandes’ win at the No. 1 slot (6-3, 6-2) clinched the match for UTSA.

The Roadrunners are back in action when they travel to Texas-Arlington on Saturday, March 17.
