SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team picked up its sixth win in the last seven matches with a convincing 6-1 victory against Connecticut on Thursday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 8-5 on the season, while the Huskies saw their record fall to 1-5.
UTSA got on the board first by winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Robin Fernandes and junior Adam Becker rolled past Ben Schueler and Joe Goldstein at the No. 1 spot, 8-2, while freshman Rodrigo Morgado and sophomore Andre Moreira defeated Joey Michaels and Christian Malerba by the same score at No. 2. Freshman Nenad Maric and senior Nate Avila completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory against Nate Carvalho and Thomas Cook.
The Roadrunners continued the onslaught by winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Fernandes cruised past Schueler at the No. 1 slot (6-1, 6-2), while Morgado picked up a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Michaels at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Moreira handed Goldstein a 6-1, 6-2 setback and Maric was victorious at No. 4, defeating Malerba by a count of 6-2, 6-2. Becker was victorious at the No. 6 spot, as he posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Cook.
UTSA is back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Lamar to the UTSATennisCenter for a 1 p.m. Southland Conference match.
